What is Alpha?

Alpha is a series of interactive sessions that freely explore the meaning of life and the basics of the Christian faith in a friendly, open, informal environment.  Watch this trailer to learn more!

Who is Alpha for?

Alpha is for everyone, no matter where you are in your faith.  The weekly topics are designed to encourage conversation.  No question is out of bounds and you are free to discuss as much or as little as you wish.

How does it work?

Alpha is a series of eleven (11) sessions exploring the Christian faith, plus a retreat (week 7).  Each talk looks at a different question around faith.  Each session will include a meal, a short video and a small group conversation where you can share your thoughts.  At any point, if you think Alpha isn’t for you, that’s not a problem.  There is no pressure.

What is the cost to participate?

There is no charge for Alpha.  However, a free-will offering is accepted to cover food expenses.

What To Expect

Food

Whether it’s a group of friends gathered around a kitchen table, or a quick catch-up over coffee and a cake, food has a way of bringing people together. It’s no different at Alpha. We start with food, because it’s a great way to encourage community and get to know each other.

Talks

The talks are designed to engage and inspire conversation. Generally, thirty (30) minutes long, they can be given as a live talk or played as a video. They explore the big issues around faith and unpack the basics of Christianity, addressing questions such as Who is Jesus? And How can we have faith?

Discussion

Probably the most important part of any Alpha: the chance to share thoughts and ideas on the topic, and simply discuss it in a small group. There’s no obligation to say anything. And there’s nothing you can’t say. It’s an opportunity to hear from others and contribute your own perspective in an honest, friendly and open environment.

Alpha and Catholicism

If you have questions about Alpha and how it relates to Catholics, check out this video from Bishop Byrnes.

Day Away Retreat

The Day Away Retreat is exactly what it sounds like--a day away from the busyness of life to come together with your Alpha community for prayer, reflection, videos and discussions, fun, food and laughter. It's a day meant to foster growing deeper in your relationship with God.
