St. Columbkille Catholic School Special Classes (Grades PS-8)
At St. Columbkille Catholic School, we believe that a well-rounded education extends beyond core academic subjects. Our special classes in art, physical education, music, library, digital citizenship, and guidance provide students from preschool through grade 8 with opportunities to explore their interests, develop essential life skills, and foster a love for lifelong learning.
Art (PS-8)
Our art program encourages students to explore their creativity and express themselves through various artistic mediums. From painting and drawing to sculpture and mixed media, students learn about different techniques and art history. Art classes help students develop fine motor skills, visual-spatial abilities, and an appreciation for cultural diversity. Through creative projects, students build confidence and discover their unique artistic voice.
Physical Education (PS-8)
Physical education is a vital part of our curriculum, promoting physical fitness, teamwork, and healthy living. Our PE classes include a variety of sports, games, and physical activities that help students develop coordination, strength, and endurance. We emphasize the importance of fair play, cooperation, and perseverance. Through regular physical activity, students learn to value health and wellness as integral parts of their lives.
Music (PS-8)
Our music program offers students the opportunity to explore the world of sound and rhythm. Students learn to read music, play instruments, and sing both individually and in groups. Through exposure to different musical genres and cultural traditions, students develop an appreciation for the arts and enhance their auditory skills. Participation in choir, band, and musical performances helps students build confidence and teamwork skills.
Library (PS-8)
Our library program fosters a love of reading and literature. Students have access to a wide range of books and resources that support their academic and personal interests. Library classes teach research skills, information literacy, and responsible use of resources. By encouraging regular reading habits, we help students improve their comprehension, vocabulary, and critical thinking skills.
Digital Citizenship (K-8)
In today's digital age, it is essential for students to understand how to navigate the online world safely and responsibly. Our digital citizenship classes teach students about internet safety, ethical online behavior, and the importance of protecting personal information. Students learn to use technology effectively for learning and communication while understanding the potential risks and how to avoid them. We emphasize the development of a positive digital footprint and responsible technology use.
Guidance (PS-8)
Our guidance program supports the emotional, social, and academic well-being of our students. Through individual counseling, group sessions, and classroom activities, our guidance counselors help students develop essential life skills such as resilience, conflict resolution, and effective communication. We provide a safe and supportive environment where students can discuss their concerns, set personal goals, and work through challenges. Our program promotes self-awareness, empathy, and healthy relationships.
